Re: How to clean egr valve?

I assume it's in the same place as on my '93 W motor - front, slightly passenger side, behind the belt tensioner and under the air intake. Oh, wait, Z engine...you'll probably have to remove the air cleaner.

Get the kleen screen gasket from your local autoparts place, in the HELP! section (where they have replacement window handles and such) and get the one for GM.

My EGR looked pretty nasty when I took it off - and was stuck almost completely open with those chunks of carbon. Clean out the chunks, then clean the pintle and its seat with sensor-safe cleaner. Gently push in the pintle to clean the seat.

You'll need a 10mm socket with at least 9" of extension (at least, you do on a W motor) for the driver's side bolt and a 10mm ratcheting wrench for the passenger side bolt if you have AC.

On the second pic, I've drawn an arrow to the EGR mounting so you can see what it looks like/approximately where it is.

The help card I bought had 2 gaskets in it. I gave the Ford one to my neighbor.

A rough idle is a effect of carbon holding open the EGR,but with a 1994 van it wouldn't hurt to put in a screened gasket and check the EGR at the same time.
