Unknown Port

Unknown Port

Postby LoriB [OP] » June 30th 2015, 8:03pm

Hi,

I’m a new member but I’ve been looking at this site for info since I got my 95 Safari. Thanks for all your posts, many have been very helpful to me so far.

I am in the process of replacing the vacuum hoses as suggested here. My AC doesn’t work and I did find the hose is bad. I was looking around the engine since I had the dog house off and I found a port that looks like a vacuum hose should be attached to it but I don’t find any disconnected hoses nearby. Can anyone tell me what this is and whether a vacuum line or anything should be connected to it?

As you may be able to tell it’s on the top of the engine right behind the distributer cap.

Thanks

There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes.

Could that be the same one?

Could be one of them but I’m not sure. Thanks for the smile and quick reply anyway.

It wasn’t blocked off, of course that does not mean that the cap hasn’t been knocked off but I’m still very curious about it.

I do see the line connected in this post by svennand.

viewtopic.php?f=34&t=57313

Since I still have the AC issue I suspect they are related.

Edit:

I moved the vacuum hose to the unknown port and now have air blowing out of the dash vents  Of course this means no vacuum line to the port under the distributor. Thoughts? I’ve been pouring over vacuum diagrams but I’m not really great at reading them apparently.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've done a lot of searching on-line and the best that I can find is that the port I was wondering about is the vacuum port for the brake booster. The brakes seem ok, not great but they are working so maybe they are getting vacuum from elsewhere? I'm unable to find a brake booster vacuum line diagram but I will be able to spend some time with it tomorrow. Maybe I can find some info that will help someone else.

The Vacuum Line / Port you refer to looks like this one ( or these ? ):

585
Image
When I was working on the Cruise Control Servo replacement, I found this Vacuum line setup and subsequent bad lines and fittings/connections.
It's from the build thread:
viewtopic.php?f=127&t=59385&p=695098&#p695098

354.2
Image
Evaporative Canister Vacuum lines, also from the build thread:

355.1

Vacuum Port / LH side of Intake Manifold / Upper Plenum. Evap. system.

Hope these help - Unfortunately, I still have an Evap. Problem - probably always will, till I get the "Correct" Canister in here. They are hard to come by - For the CPI Engine - and expensive when found.
And my cruise control still does not work - but vacuum system does not seem to be the problem. I bought new and replaced all but the "small/hard" and colored vacuum lines.

There are a few more photos - at the Vacuum Ball/Reservoir/T connections, etc.

If you can't find what is supposed to be connected there, it wouldn't hurt to plug it off with a rubber cap.

With that vacuum leak connected or plugged, your MPG's should improve a little.

So THAT'S where my carbon can is supposed to connect? It's been "faked" since before I got the van. Maybe my idle would smooth out some if I connect it. It's pretty choppy while it's warming up.
