Fuel system? Ignition system?

Fuel system? Ignition system?

Postby ExtraParts [OP] » September 4th 2015, 9:44pm

So i got codes off my basic code reader stating it was the ignition coil, replace igniton coil, then replaced distributor cap/rotor, camshaft sensor, crankshaft postion sensor. Nothing. Still stalled after about 15 minutes. BUT IT HAS STILL BEEN STARTING... if it doesnt i just wait a hour or so. Now im noticing my fuel pump is not making any noise at key on like it should, my pump is only a couple years old but the lack of noise makes me think. Also i jumped the relay with no result no noise. The only thing i havent replaced is the ingition control module, but this is eating up all of my VACATION money and i am in a foriegn state with no mechanic buddies...

I just dont understand how my code reader would STILL say its the ignition coil(self interperted to vaguely refer to the whole system) if it was infact a fuel related issue.

Im running out of hairs to pull...

Codes don't say "this is bad, replace it".

Codes say, this sensor/electrical component says there's something it can't compensate for, check it out.

In other words, they give you the symptom. It is up to you to diagnose the real problem.

Man that stinks. Went through a similar thing recently. Can you check fuel pressure? Its pretty easy with the doghouse off.

It does sound like a fuel issue. Have someone start it as you spray starting fluid in the air box. If that makes it keep running you have your culprit.

You can actually drive the van around if that person can balance on the hood edge spraying the whole time.
