spider/gas mileage

Postby since_1971 [OP] » August 9th 2010, 2:11pm

I have a 99 safari cargo
and still have bad mileage, about 16 hiway, and 14 in town.
tuned up every thing I could think of, cat, shift sol.
this van has been poorly maintained
when I turn off the van I sometimes get a whiff of fuel.
any thoughts?
can anyone point me to the spider r/r?
thanks

but how do I know it needs to be done
Use your nose. Sniff a around the spider and try to smell a fuel leak. Is there a shiny area around the spider where fuel has been leaking? You're looking for something that's out of the ordinary.

Does the smell dissipate overnight? If so, start the engine for a few seconds. Does the smell come back? Can you localize the smell to an area of the van, such as the engine bay, the emissions canisters, the fuel tank, etc.?

Are there any OBD Codes being set?
