New mass o2 sensor

New mass o2 sensor

Postby Pengyou [OP] » November 8th 2015, 9:16pm

I installed a new mass O2 sensor - see photo. I think I installed it correctly. Now my gas mileage has dropped to 8 mpg from 14. My first thoughts - I installed it in correctly; the new part is bad; or there is something else spontaneously wrong with the van. Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be a bad MAF with the poor fuel economy after replacing. What brand? Check the connector and be sure to disconnect battery when replacing.

IF that is the only thing you changed, I would put the old one back in. Could be bad sensor, bad calculations, bad connections...etc.

May be worth disconnecting battery for 30+ minutes to allow relearn on some functions.

I had a bad MAF sensor which caused my mileage to go way down which in turn caused my CAT to plug... it never threw a code until the morning I was going to get the CAT changed. Replaced both and mileage is back to an average of 15 MPG...

All that extra fuel takes it's toll on your wallet and the cat, that is for sure, and if it's continued it will take it's toll on other things as well.
