99 Astro intermittent cut out

I'm having a problem with my 99 Astro and I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on where to start before I begin tearing it apart. When driving at a steady speed it cuts out for 1-5 seconds and then cuts back in. It feels like the ignition turns off and back on very quickly. When it cuts out for just a second or two, it just causes the van to jerk/lunge. When it cuts out for longer, the gauges go nuts, including the fuel gauge, and the van chokes like it is flooding for a moment or two, and if you keep your foot in it then it pops through the exhaust a few times and then comes out of it and runs great until the next time which occurs anywhere from 1 to 10 miles later. There are not dash lights on to indicate it is throwing a code, and when I plug my code reader in it doesn't turn the code reader on. The van runs good most of the time, always starts great, it never bothers under moderate to hard acceleration, is not rain or temperature affected and varying the rpms doesn't change the behavior. Any time I try to maintain a steady speed it acts up. Any thoughts on where I should begin?

Sounds like an electrical problem to me, check your battery connections and grounds.
