Parking brake pull handle pulled out

Parking brake pull handle pulled out

Postby Dbleeger [OP] » January 13th 2021, 7:18pm

I was over-enthusiastic with pulling on the parking brake hand lever and as a result, it pulled out of plastic housing. Nothing seems to be broken, but I can't get it to seat in all the way. It sits proud of where it should rest by a few inches. Does anyone have any experience with getting that lever back into place?

Re: Parking brake not engaging

Postby Dbleeger [OP] » January 13th 2021, 7:59pm

(I edited the original post to reflect the problem that I'm having, but cannot delete this one. Sorry for the redundancy)

I figured out what is causing the problem. When I reattached the parking brake release cable to its housing clip the hand lever doesn't seat back in properly. It sticks out by a few inches and this is making it so that the parking brake release is pretty much always engaged and this not allowing the parking brake pedal to click and lock into place.

I'm trying to get the hand lever to seat back in properly, but it doesn't want to go in any further than what I had it at before. Has anybody had any experience with this and how to get the hand lever properly seated again?

Is this a '91 ? I do not know of any "Lever". Our '92 has a Lg. pull out Knob.

At any rate - crawling on the floor by the LH Kick Panel - the E-Brake ratchet / Gear needs reset.
I might suggest you take a second look at the work done so far.

( there are some cars / vans w/ lever releases - our Altima has 2 of them - Hood & ??? )

Well, after all... what would Banacek say ?... Anyone that condones the actions of the American People during the Storming of the Capitol are as complicit as the Assholes themselves.
But no way does this let the Democrats or the MSM off the Hook.

Yes your correct, its more a hand pull knob than a lever. With the brake release lever disconnected the parking brake works, but I need to reach under the dash and pull back on the release now.

I'll post a photo of what the knob looks like now and how it's not sitting properly in its place
