first review of ACDelco pads

i just had my brakes done at the dealer. i had ACDelco Advantage pads and ACDelco rotors and a new NAPA RF caliper. Very good bite with the brakes, especially with the brake fluid flush. i drove in stop and go traffic freeway today and probably a total of 350 miles since i had the brakes done. i need new tires and i am sure that would help, but the brakes feel like the best that the van has ever had even with worn tires. the pads i got are ceramic. the last set of ceramic pads lasted about 75k miles on the van so i did the ceramics again. i will never use any pads but ceramic pads again.

My van has 108,000 kms...had the brakes done at 85,000 kms, new rotors and lifetime pads. Now the dealership was bought out and no longer in business. Doesn't seem to be right 20,000 kms...I don't claimed to know it all but are the AC delco parts worth it? I look to follow your progress with them in time. I like to keep the van for ever (lol), but, my wife wonders about keeping the van on the road.

Not out to offend anybody, but I have had this van since new and love it...mostly ride my motorcycle during the summer, It just seems like the Van eats money on the front end.

It sounds like the rear brakes were not adjusted up correctly which would make the front brakes go through pads quickly.

Was this done at a GM dealer?

Most of my life I had just used junk yard brake pads. I would almost never fall to find a real nice set of pads. That preformed very well. This was of course before metallic pads reared their ugly head. From what I have read it does NOT sound like these astro vans have brake problems. (Lets not bring the abs into this.) Google toyata brakes and all you will read is about all the problems.
As I have aged I realized the importance of brakes. My advice is to buy the best you can. I would not think ac delco would be the best, but let us know.

I'm turning in my '06 Express van Tuesday morning. It has 170K on it, and still has the factory brakes all around. I'm sold.

I am on my second set of brakes in 7 years.And happy with my brake life.6 years a set not bad.There are some steep hills around here.Either ride the brakes hard or your doing 90 literally into a 30 MPH hairpin turn.About twice a week,over the course of last summer, somebody was flipped on the hill next to my house.If your vehicle got weak brakes you dont belong on that road.I want to be easy on them.But I like livin more reckon.

i have had the acdelco pads before and they were not ceramic pads. they were shot after 17k miles and i ended up rear ending someone. the new acdelco pads are ceramic and seem to bite pretty good. i have not put a lot of miles on the van since the brake job because the van gets like 14 mpg at best plus it had a coolant leak, and my Subaru gets 21-22 combined, so i drive the Subaru. the last set of pads on the astro were napa ceramic pads and they lasted 80k miles before they needed to be replaced. so i am going to only go with ceramic pads from now on. also we have had HD pads on the van before and they only lasted about 30k miles. also with the ceramic pads the brakes do not seem to over heat, so brake fade is to a minimum.

I have used the Ac Delco Durastop semi-mettalic pads and have had great success with them , handle the heat very very well

Let's be frank,

Delco is just another parts vendor in the long list of parts vendors. Some of their products are better than others, some worse than others.

It is our place in the scheme of things to weed out those items that give worse than OEM performance and evaluate the cost effectiveness

of those parts that perform better than OEM.

the last brake pads were cheap napa ceramics and that it lasted 75-80k miles and it is the longest we have even had brakes on the astro. so i went to the dealer this time and got ceramics again. i have ceramics on my subaru also and i have not had a single problem with ceramic brakes. i will run them for the rest of my life, or for ever long we are still using brake pad and rotors.

I'm running ceramic pads in front after replacing the rotors and pads. I've been very happy with them. No brake fade, even braking. They were put on new this summer...suppose if I were smart, I'd log when I replace parts on my vehicles so that I could keep track of how long they last...'course, I'm usually done with the vehicles before I have to replace any of those parts again....my ceramics are NAPA's ceramics btw.

UPDATE brakes are working fine and stop very quickly. i still have not put a lot of miles on the van but i do a lot of hilly around town driving and they do great.
