Best Brakes?

Best Brakes?

Postby ghettoBAGO [OP] » November 19th 2017, 3:21am

Hey gang.. I know this is going to fetch tons of various responses.. but wondering if anyone has GREAT reviews of any certain brand of brakes they like? Or nightmare stories on what to stay away from? Planning for this little expedition, I'm going over the top & replacing most if not all of maintenance issue parts, and since I'm towing a trailer, stopping power is going to be just as big a tool as go go power :) Doing everything from from the slave cylinder on.. total rebuild.. pretty much on every system in the van..

I can't seem to start a new topic in the engine forum so I figured I'd ask here too.. Fuel Pump/sending unit.. any noteworthy brands to lean towards or steer away from?
I pretty much have an amazing mechanic friend that is leasing himself & his shop to me for a REALLY good deal for 3 days, so I'm breaking down everything & starting to source the parts now.

Accepted a good offer on my house & land, made a months salary at a giant barn sale I had today & since I plan on living in & traveling in the van for the next 2-3 years, I'm dumping whatever it takes into rolling out of Washington state with a next to new rig...

Any tips would as always, be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on the property sale and plans for traveling in your van for the next couple of years!

What year is your van? On my 2004, I've had very good results with Hawk LTS brake pads front/rear and OE quality brake rotors (AC Delco/Delphi/SAG from Rock Auto). Excellent bite and stopping power, no fade (never, even when loaded/towing), long lasting, very kind to the rotors but they do dust a bit.

Obviously, like you said, the rest of the brake system needs to be up to snuff and better quality brake fluid as well.

On my '97 I never felt like the overall brake system was truly sufficient when loaded and/or towing even with quality pads and rotors.

Everyone tends to have a personal preference on this stuff based on what they've purchased/drive on so ymmv.

For fuel pumps, I went with Delphi as it was the OE pump on my 2004 and unless you buy AC Delco "GM Original Equipment" specified you don't know where or who your parts are coming from since they basically turned into a parts reseller. Even with the GM OE specification, I'd still be cautious.

Akebono pads. No substitute or comparison.
How many sensors, fuses or computers does a Bw4472 need? Zero.
