A few brake tips.

A few brake tips.

Having twice replaced rotors and pads on my Astro I've made a few observations. The first is that you should allow extra time if you haven't done an Astro front brake job before because there are ferrules that the caliper bolts pass through and ferrule seals that will need replacing. This added about an hour to the job. When I inspected them during the second brake job they were fine and didn't need attention.
Secondly, when installing the calipers, spin on a lug nut to hold the rotor against the hub. This will make reinstalling the caliper much easier.
Thirdly, the torque values given for the lug nuts on the AWD models contribute to rotor warping, IMHO. I used my torque wrench to back off of the specs. 'When reinstalling the wheels I was careful to exactly center them with the lug nuts and the seat of my pants tells me the van feels smoother when going down the road.
I guess I'll be buying an extra set of jack stands because I'll be doing my own tire rotations from now on.

Check out HF's 6 ton stands. They are beefier, allow you to raise the truck highter if

you want to put it in the air, and the price is fair. I have 2 sets of the 6 ton stands

that I use constantly, and 2 sets of the 1-1/2 ton that don't leave the shop anymore.
