ABS brake disable 2003 Safari cargo ??

Postby mennis1971 [OP] » December 28th 2015, 8:31pm

What is the easiest way to disconnect the ABS? Winter and snow here and I'd honestly feel safer with just reg brakes. Doesn't a fuse or module exist somewhere under the hood that'll allow me to unplug the ABS? No lights on, but the ABS just isn't feeling right on regular days and with slick roads, I'm gonna drive it(haven't drove it ever yet on any snow etc-just rain and plenty of that lately) and decide for sure

Thanks
Dennis

Under the hood, right side, right on top towards the back. Should be the 60A if I remember, only on in there. Cover is labeled though

Same here. Had to pull mine last week, it's doing that thing where the ABS starts going every time I stop. Haven't had the time to clean the sensors yet. Might try both ways once the snow hits here.

Oh, word of warning, on these, pulling that fuse also turns on your brake light, so keep your eye on your fluid in case.

...and disables dynamic rear proportioning - DRP is part of ABS unit and replaces mechanical rear proportioning so do expect the rear to potentially lock up in heavy braking/low traction situations with ABS disabled. The red brake light illuminates when ABS fuse is pulled to warn you that DRP is also disabled.

Best bet would be to find and fix the problem causing ABS malfunction - ABS sensors, EBCM repair, etc.

ABS isn't quite malfunctioning, but doesn't feel 100% either. In the rain and/or at low speeds you'll feel it kick in, especially if it's a bumpy road(plenty of those here). Melting snow/ice with a chance of just a little more tonite. Brakes felt good last night when I took GF home(after disabling ABS). I grew up without ABS driving manual shift V8 fox body mustangs. ABS will get looked at, just not today(working).
