RC planes

RC planes

Postby toddb [OP] » September 26th 2009, 3:23am

Hi all,

Ok, did you know that you can get into a RC plane for $150?

Be forewarned that it can easily get into $2000. Thats where I'm at. I have two Hoby Zone Super clubs, 1 Fatshark google and associated cameras/transmiters. Another wing that I'm adding airlerons to, Servos, and receiver. Thank goodness I had a Transmitter given to me. So the way I look at it is it is still cheaper than getting a pilots liciense and buying or renting a plane.

Hey, still fun and way less time and pain that some of you are putting into this silly van. LOL!

SO, IS anyone else into RC?

Regards, Todd.

I have an electric RC car that I have about $30 into. If I get the itch for some cool RC stuff my buddy is pretty big into it with gas powered cars, 1 plane, and a hovercraft, so I go mess his stuff up. Its a cool hobby, but just way to expensive for me. :(

I've been into R/C cars since 1992. I have 1 airplane that I have flown once.. a cheap park flyer.

I used to race competitively every weekend & had my two sons racing with me. I've raced Off road & on road, but my passion is off road & that's all I have right now. My current "fleet" consists of 10 vehicles, from a scale rock crawler to a 1/8 scale buggy converted to electric power (all I do is Electric, Nitro doesn't interest me). Since 1992 I've probably sunk 30k into R/C stuff. It sounds like a lot, but that's over 17 years and there was a ton of fun and quality time with my sons for that money. A good investment looking back on it.

That said...... R/C is as expensive OR as cheap as you want to make it. The initial investment can be as little as $150-200 for a hobby grade RC. Yes that is more expensive than the $30-100 Toys-R-Us RCs, but the cheap toy grade RCs will not last, & once they break, you're done. With a Hobby grade RC, you get a much more durable vehicle that is 2-3 times faster. If something breaks, you can get replacement parts easily and usually for a cost of less than $10, you'd be out cruising again. Plus on a Hobby grade unit you can get "hop-up" parts to make it even more durable and/or faster yet.
Why do it if it ain't fun?
