NHRA Four lane drag race

Postby Gary [OP] » March 26th 2010, 8:05am

NHRA has announced it will hold a four lane drag race due to attendance and apparent interest being down. Here is how it will be done.

http://www.nhra.com/story/2010/3/23/fou ... will-work/

I think I would like to see it once, but not as a steady diet.Any thoughts??.

"Pinks" on the Speed Channel. It isnt NRA sponsored, just a bunch of garage mechanics running all out down the 1/4 mile. There were a couple shows were they ran 4 wide. Kind of interesting watching 4 cars getting squirrely off the line, trying to stay out of each others lane. You would catch me doing that! :snooty:

I like that show! I think I'm pretty good at guessing most of the times although it's gets to be unpredictable when they use a bottle.

Yeah, Love it! Love the little 70 year old guys they get once in awhile who has the 500hp car and runs it down the track balls out! I hope I'm in that shape at 70 to be able to get in a car and run it down the track at 100+ mph.

What does the National Rifle Association have to do with it?

j/k

I know you meant NHRA. The 4-way drag would save on time. That's the one thing I hate about Byron Dragway. So many people show up it turns into a parking lot. :banghead:

I think what NHRA is talking about here is four nitro cars running at the same time. :layrubber: :layrubber:

I wouldn't mind the slower class cars running 4 abreast, but I'd really rather watch the alcohol and nitro cars running like they do now.A lot of tracks are barely getting by as it is,I'd hope it wouldn't be a mandate. it's a big enough problem when they build a track out in the middle of nowhere, then developers come in and build neighborhoods, then people move in KNOWING there's a race track, then complain and whine about the noise until ordinances are passed and the track gets closed....sorry, not trying to change the subject, just something that aggravates the crap outta me. hmm, Cruz, Ashley, John and ...????????"Who's gonna be in lane 4, for the FINALS"? .....maybe interesting!

Les,

N/P in those comments.I totally agree with you and want to add we need to continue to find ways to interest our youth in drag racing, build a base in spectators, promote this activity as a family outing. The back bone has and will be always the little guy and not the corp sponsor cars.I have said it before that in my life time I have seen kids grow up around this sport and most are the most respectful responsible successful( outside of the sport) people you would very want to meet. For NHRA to go to this extreme is not the correct answer. :2:

Yepper, I used to like going to Moroso Motorsports Park and watching the Quick 16........those guys bring some insane stuff out there.
Gary, I agree with you 100%,it's a way to keep kids out of trouble...if we had more tracks accessible, there'd be less street racing, and fewer teenage boys ( and grown men) getting killed and injuring/killing others. My 2 daughters love going to Houston Raceway Park ( it's an 1/8th mile track that's a lot closer than the big one in Baytown) with my brother and I . I wish I had the disposable income to build another track car. One day!

I think it may be interesting to have a four wide race here and there but I like the way it is and always has been two cars heads up that way its either you win or you lose no fighting for second and third place. Wouldnt running four wide require drastic changes to the scoring system used to rank drivers?? I mean whats next a toyota division???
