"1989 chevy astro van - $550 (macclenny)

for sale is a 1989 chevy astro van, it was my fathers and he has passed away, so the van has been sitting for about 3 years, he parked it to do the back brakes, but never got done, was running when parked, someone stole the back rim and tire, and tried to steal the radiator.its just sitting in the engine compartment, body is decent, not major dents or rust. no major rips or tears in the interior, its missing a door panel.could need fresh gas , battery, and tune up from sitting.clear title, nice for a mechanic, or parts car. the van does need some tlc, so serious buyers only, its a long drive from greencove to macclenny for me, please call mike"

Boy that is basically the same van as I own. if I was closer I would buy that in a military minute. They only made the shorty RS/GT for two years according to my sources. They did make the longer versions too but I have no numbers on that. Grab it if you can is my recommendation.Mark

Agreed Mark, I know, I'd love to save this van, unfortunately I'm into several other projects, so I shared it here

Looks pretty rough to me, but I hope someone on the site grabs it so we can watch a restoration :)

It is rough. I did want to add, if anyone is serious about this or other vans near me, I could check them out, get more info.
This van would make a sweet restoration RS V8 street racer :driving:

I guess things have a different value depending on where you are looking from !!!!

With hundreds of Astro shorty's in the USA, and a good number of RS's still on the roads, I can see 'over there' you can afford to be choosy!
With parts easily available and selling dirt cheap in the US with minimal (or free) shipping costs + many Astro's in junk yards almost everywhere you go,,,,, even I might get a little choosy.

BUT, an RS, just sitting there, waiting to be loved. It almost breaks my heart.

It's a struggle keeping my 88 Astro (RS lookalike) running over here (UK) what with the lack of available parts, hugely inflated parts shipping costs + additional import tax,, not to mention the gasoline at about $4 a gallon.

an RS, just sitting there, waiting to be loved. It does break my heart.

I understand, if I could I would. Just buy it and keep it to myself, resell, restore, etcetera; but I can not, so I share it here :|

Hi, It's good to post it, I hope someone can take it for restoration, it looks no worse than my 88 when I bought it, and mine isn't an RS. (I paid more for it too) Over here the early Astro shorty's are very much overlooked but are pretty rare now. (Most Astro's in the UK are the 'ext' high top variety). So resale value isn't great,, but that makes no difference to me because I KNOW just how good these early Astro shorty's are!. I've no intention of selling mine. If I had the resources I'd run a rescue centre for these great vans. Fingers crossed for the RS.

I've paid more for worse. A rust free shorty RS with no apparent major problems. I would even guess that the mileage is not all that high. That is going to be a great deal for someone.
