Sorry about the pics, more to come when she comes from the shop!

Long story short... My throttle got stuck last week on my ride. I took her to my friends shop. He replaced the throttle cable and the Power Steering pump... and now it has a knock in the engine. It is going to need a rebuild. Turns out the stuck throttle spun a little too hard and threw a rod. It runs, starts, drives - but for how long is anyones guess.

At this point I am going to park it since I don't have the funds to rebuild at the moment. I am also going to see if there is any interest here in buying a pretty nice stable lifted clean low miles chassis AWD

Odometer is just a hair under 100k.

Ive driven her just under 30k miles.

This has been a great van, and still is. Tracks like a dream at speed on the Highways. Climbs hills without breaking a sweat.

Within the 30k Ive owned it Ive done the following:
New Battery
New Alternator
New Shocks
New Fuel Pump
New AC Compressor
New Upper Control Arms
New upper Ball Joints
2" overland lift
American Racing Rims
Brand new Yakima Geolander AT's (tons of rubber left)
New Alpine Stereo with Blue tooth and all that jazz
New Throttle Cable
New Power Steering Pump

Interior is in pretty good shape. Paint looks pretty darn good. I left it generally stock looking to avoid attention from the you know whats... but it sure does get a lot of glances.

Pretty much everything works on the van. I don't think it has ever been used for towing. I am the second owner. Front AC blows cold but the rear blower isn't working.

Known issues:
Right window motor is weak
Will need new hatch struts
Rear AC
The Engine (?)

SO there it is. This is a pretty awesome rig if you want to get the engine worked out.

PM with any offers or just post them here. Located in PHX AZ baby!!

if it didnt get driven much with the rod knocking you could pull the oil pan and change the rod bearing from under it depending on which one it is. (IIRC its #2 usually) but Im not sure I would let the same 'mechanic' do that.

Ive done this with success before. it just depends on if the rod journal on the crankshaft is damaged or not. you will be able to see it after you pull the rod cap.

once you get the oil pan off and have a look, if one of the rod caps is blue or discolored badly from the rest, its probably too far gone to just slap a new bearing in there. really just depends on how far and how hard it was driven with it knocking.

BTW if it is still running, it didnt 'throw a rod'

I see I see, well I'm no expert on the matter... it now has a knock.

When the throttle got stuck it revved pretty hard - enough to scare the **** out of me.

I don't think my "mechanic" wants to handle the job so I ws just putting the feelers out there. I thank you for that advice though! Probably beyond what I can do myself!

Not even really sure where to start on price. The wheels and rubber are good and pretty much the entire van is pretty nice except for this little come up.

Im not sure if an AWD oil pan is removable now that I think about it. the RWD one is for sure. if it is removable then it wouldnt be a difficult to inspect and replace bearing if not totally fried.

yeah when rods get thrown, it usually exits the engine block or tries to and breaks the block. dont drive it or it may throw one. new engine time instead of rebuild if that happens.

That sucks... what a bummer.

I suppose a very talented mechanic could re-journal the crank inside the engine (is this even possible?) and replace the bearing.. but of course, this won't be nearly as good of a job as pulling the engine and doing a proper rebuild. In fact, if you're not doing the work yourself, replacing with a new or JY engine will be cheaper than a proper rebuild... that's the conclusion I came to. I'd go with a low miles JY engine if I had to replace my engine again -- but I was risk averse so I went with a GM long block.

It ain't cheap to R&R an engine... but it can be done. Given the low miles, it might be worth it if you could find a decent engine and a reasonably priced mechanic to do the swap.

I don't know your budget -- but it might be worth it if everything else is golden on your van.

Spun bearing= Bearing shell(s) rotate between the rod and crank. Rod intact, engine knocking. This is what I did on my test drive after replacing all those parts last year. Engine runs, but knocks.

Thrown rod= Connecting rod breaks in two (or more) pieces. My first experience with this, everything stayed internal. Lots of damage. My second experience was a Camaro my buddy gave me. It had a straight 6, rod # 1 went through the side of the block into the alternator. I drove the car onto and off of the trailer under it's own (noisy) power.
