2001 Astro project

Postby Old Barney [OP] » September 5th 2018, 12:45am

I have come to the conclusion I'm not going to finish my dream (nightmare). I haven't started taking apart the van yet. it is drivable now and could be driven to..... The existing motor has the 4.3 knock sometimes? the transmission is great and shifts good. brakes are good, windshield is cracked thanks to a Floriduh rock hauler, lights all work, electric seat drivers side manual passengers side, 12 volts run by #4 wire to 75 amp power pole plug in bumper, class three receiver, 7 pole trailer plug in bumper, hasn't been wrecked YET. Now to see if I can attach my gallery with photo's. Crap it's easier for you folks to go to my gallery and pull them up. The green van is the one for sale the white van is gone.
included with this deal is a complete AWD assembly still in subframe from the 1999 Astro. NO wires are cut during removal. the injector spider is new, Water pump is NEW, the starter is NEW, the plugs and wires are NEW. EGR assembly is cleaned, the intake upper manifold is NEW, the lower gasket is NEW, PVC is NEW, New shocks and most front end ware parts replaced. AWD rear end and drive shaft included also.

I'm asking to brake even on the project at $2,000 for everything bring a trailer to get subframe assy on and tow it home with 2001 astro. CLEAN TITLE!!
All of this is in Fort White Florida just south of Georga off Interstate 75 I can send photos by e-mail eisier than here.

I would be all over that if I didn't live 2,788 miles (per google) away. Good luck with your sale. I am sure someone on here will find a good home for it.

Ohhh I am tempted to make the drive for sure. However...

4,800 miles @ 13MPG = 369 gallons of gas @ $3/ gal = $1,100 in gas alone. NO WAY will the boss sign off on THAT.

Barney if I were a lot closer, I'd just come out there and help you do the swap. I know how health can get in the way of toys and I hate to see you give up yours.

...Any chance some local folks could get together and help ole Barney out with his swap? Make a weekend camp-n-work party out of it? I'll pony up $50 to the cause!
Remember... there is thanking someone for their service... then there's showing them your gratitude... just a thought.

That would be awesome, and if I was within 5-7 or so hours, I would totally be down for that!

Damn, Wimpy...

I kept reading this - wishing - hoping.
Realizing - things are not the same.
Wish I could drop down there - do something.

Anyway, nice to know people are still thinking of others.
Thanks.

I do appreciate you folks here. I will still add my 2 cents now and then as I remember what short cut I have found doing what I have already found out.
I have too many other projects to clean up clocks, radio's, all my junk (treasures LOL)
My wife has a 1999 Mercedes diesel that has to be rewired with better wire than they used. AC has to be rebuilt ect.. ect.. her car takes the lead and my wallet. By the way I would NEVER buy [email protected]#$%^&*((*& as that thing

Me again still have this. wife is getting foolish, I'm getting older, If a trailer is brought along the van is all set up for towing. Since I last posted I have a new spider and fuel pump installed. Have found it does have brake fluid leak at the differential flex line. being a Florida rust free van should spin off quite easily. At present I can NOT crawl under to fix too many hospital visits too much pain. The rear end is the one from the 1999 AWD. I did swap it when I was able to. since the last post I have broken the neck on my femur now I have three 4 1/2 inch screws holding my left leg together. I still drive the van around property to pull trailers ect just to keep things moving, circulating and battery charged.

Take care of YOURSELF and your family, Barney. There will always be projects, jobs to do, chores, etc. Someone will pick up the torch and run with it. Thank you for your service. Best of luck to you in your recovery.
