Parting Out 1998 Chevrolet Astro Van

Honey Brook, PA

I am using the engine and transmission for my C1500. Just about everything else is for sale. It has a salvage certificate so you can’t put it on the road again. Not interested in selling to someone who will scrap it. I am going to scrap it myself in a few weeks. The van runs and drives so all the brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust, etc is in working order. Sliding door works. Pass front door works. Rear doors are partially open as seen in the pictures but it I can’t get them open. If someone wants them then I can try to get them open. Front fenders, hood, grille, bumper and headlights are in great shape. All glass is good except windshield. Let me know if my prices are way off. Local pickup would be best but I can ship the smaller items. There is currently about 18 inches of snow around the van so some parts are not easy to get at right now.

John 484-459-1861

Doors $60 each
Fenders $50 each
Front bumper $50
Rear $150
Grille $50
Headlight & Turn Signal Assemblies $75

We can work out a price on anything else you might need.

Assuming the side mirrors are power and in good shape, I am interested in the passenger side. I recently paid $30 shipped for one but the wiring did not match up, could you confirm that it has 4 wires going to the plug (purple, red, blue, yellow). Thanks.

Also, if it has power door locks I'd be interested in the door lock actuators as long as they are still strong. I could use them for the drivers, passenger and sliding door. Looks like the door panels are already off so it should be an easy pull. Let me know what you'd want for them.

Everything would be shipped to 06604.

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Thanks,
Dan

If the battery box and the mount for the PCM are in good shape still, I NEED them, as I currently have a battery box made of wood and my PCM is just hanging by the wires! Shipped to 55040. It would save me a trip to the only junkyard near me that I know of that has ONE astro in it, and I don't know if it even has a good battery box/PCM mount.

I noticed wires going to the mirror. I can take a picture of the setup and post it for you. The door panels were removed by the previous owner and he removed all the switches but I still have the panels. I’m not sure how to test the actuators. What tools are needed to remove them? I am storing the van at a friend’s impound lot and I have to bring my own tools if he is not there. Please remember that this is my first Astro and I don’t know much about them. I found a link so I know what they look like.

I’ll check out the battery box. What/where is a PCM mount?

Don't worry about the door lock actuators. I'm not willing to pay much at all, and its a pain to do so I should probably consider buying new.

The mirror wires should look like this:

Battery box and PCM mount are all part of the same thing pretty much. The Power Control Module ( brain ) is mounted to the battery box. I have neither the Battery box, nor the PCM mount and clips in my van.

Disconnect the plugs on the computer, unbolt the battery box from beneath the drivers side wheel well and it should all come out as one unit ( you may have to pull the PCM out before the battery box, I'm not sure because I've never done it.

If it has tilt and cruise, I would be interested in the steering column. I don't need the wheel or air bag so if you would ship it the packaging wouldn't be too bad. I do need to do a little research to make sure it would fit; there was some king of design change in 98 columns.

I wish you were closer, I would love to have those seats in my van!

The seats were nice. Someone bought those and the seatbelts. I’ve had a lot of interest in parts but there is about 2 feet of snow around the van and it’s stored an hour away at a friend’s place. I’m hoping to get to it this weekend or Monday as I have work scheduled in that area. I was hoping to use the steering wheel in my 96 C1500 but I have to do some research on it. It seems there are 2 designs of wheels/airbags. 2 prong and 3 prong.

Wow, if I had the money I'd buy almost every piece of interior in that thing (except for the seats). Here's a couple strange requests. First, I need the wiring harness for the overhead console. I'm not sure where it runs, but I know it goes from a hole in the headlner between the front seats down to the fusebox. I just looked on my van and unfortunately it doesn't have it. Also, the cup holder insert for the drivers side back seat, and the storage compartment box (I have the lid but the box is gone) for the passenger side by the rear seat is gone. It looks like an arm rest when closed, but it opens up to put stuff in. If you get the chance let me know how much you'd want for those plus shipping. Thanks!

I am in no hurry on the steering column, it's a swap I've been thinking about for quite a while and I wouldn't change it out until warmer weather. I've just been waiting to find one that will work in my van.

I found out that the van needs to have an RPO code of CTF. There was some design change mid year 1998 that involved steering columns and that code denotes the change.
ctf.jpg

So whenever you get to it check the RPO label (back edge of passenger door). Also, if this works out, I would really like that passenger side floor mat as well.

Weather permitting I have a work appointment tomorrow near where the van is stored. We are getting more freezing rain but I will do what I can to get to it. I’ll take a picture of the option sticker and grab some of the easy stuff. All the floor mats went with the seats. The interior trim is still there. Feel free to call me if you have any questions. By the way, I’d be willing to trade van parts for 1956 Chevy parts.

Hmmm, no CTF code. I guess I'll keep looking for a column. The parts guides are pretty specific on this, but I wish I knew what the differences are.

Thanks for posting your rpo sticker. Good luck with the part-out.

I'm still interested in the battery tray/PCM holder if you find that it's in good shape still.
