Passenger Swivel Bases for Sale

Postby WinnieVan [OP] » March 26th 2021, 8:33am

Hi All,

I've been designing a passenger swivel for the Astro/Safari over the past few months and it is finally refined and ready for production.

This swivel base is built to the exact dimensions of the OEM base -- no more raising your seat height while installing a swivel plate.

The unit swivels in both directions with the passenger door closed. It locks into place in the 0* (forward), 90*, 165*, 180* (backward) and 205* and 270* positions.

The lock is spring loaded and the forward facing position has an auxililary threaded lock for a slop-free lock while driving. I think it is awesome and I think you will too!!

The images/videos below are raw steel -- but the final product will be powder coated semi-gloss black.

The price for the initial production run is $349 + shipping or local pick-up in Salem, OR. Shipping will likely be about ~$40 -- a bit less if you're closer to Salem, OR; a bit more if you're really far away.

I am taking refundable deposits of $100 to ensure you get in on the first run. The idea is to make at least 10x units -- but I will expand the run if needed!

ETA for the first run is the first or second week of May.

If you are interested -- please reply here, PM me or email me at: [email protected]

Here's some photos and videos of the unit in action:

Seat Base FAQ:

Q: Will the final product be raw steel or coated?
A: The final product will be professionally powder coated semi-gloss black. I will update the pictures once I have the first finished units in hand.

Q: Can you still adjust the seat back and forth?
A: YES! This design utilizes the original equipment seat rails.

Q: Does this raise the seat?
A: Nope. The base is the exact dimension of the OEM base. Same pitch, same height.

Q: Can you still adjust the seat back and forth?
A: YES! This design utilizes the original equipment seat rails.

Q: Can you mount this for additional leg-room?
A: Yes. The slotted holes allow about 3/4" of movement in total. I recommend you mount the base as far back as possible and mount the seat rails as far back as possible, too.

Q: Can you swivel the seat with the door closed?
A: Yes - in both directions.

Q: Will this fit GEN-1 vans?
A: TBD. I think the seat base is identical -- but I need to check for swivel clearance.

Q: Do I need to remove the seat rails from my base to use this swivel?
A: Yes. You will need to remove the rails from your existing base -- this is easily done with a hammer and chisel, grinder or my favorite -- an air hammer. I'll include details instructions/video on how to do this... it isn't as daunting as it sounds!

Q: Is it DOT approved?
Unfortunately, no. By purchasing and installing this product -- you do so at your own risk.

Fan-freaking-tastic work!!!

So glad to see this come together, and with that positive locking action in the forward position it's going to be the best option available for our vans.

Bad news -- production is delayed about 6 weeks -- due to a change order from me and the shop I'm working with having a laser go down for 3 weeks!

Good news -- deposit window will remain open until Friday May-7!

If you want to get in on this first run -- now is the time!!

Thank you!

Here's a first impression from one of my customers -- tickle me pink... it came out just as I wanted it and I'm super excited to do the next round.

Given the success and subsequent interest of the first round of these -- I'm opening up refundable deposits for the second round via the form below:
https://form.jotform.com/211837195397164

The price for this round is $369 + shipping to account for some increases in material costs and design changes. Shipping is roughly $30 on the West Coast and about $55 to the East Coast -- more to Canada and Europe -- but I will work with you within reason to ship as necessary! Local pickup is always available at Ironcloud Metalworks HQ in Salem OR.

Thank you again for your interest -- and please email me if you have any questions -- [email protected]

[ps don't mind the limp handle there - that's just for shipping purposes!!]

Got mine on Monday!

Holy smokes; these things are legit. No reason to look anywhere else, folks. Seriously.

Just a happy camper with no affiliation.

Considering 2 more for rear passengers seats, if these don’t get snatched up. Way impressed.

Sold-out currently. Second batch is in production. See post from July-4 for info on that run.

FWIW -- I think it'll be a couple more runs until things steady out and I can stock these for immediate shipment -- so if you're looking to get one soon, I suggest throwing down the deposit.

Re: Passenger Swivel Bases for Sale

Postby Rod's Trucks » July 15th 2021, 6:06am

I finally found a 'Round-Tu-It" this evening.
That allowed me to install my new IronCloud seat swivel assembly.
It went in without any problems.
The rivets are a PITA, but doable. my tool of choice was a cheap HF Disc grinder, with very thin cut-off wheel. Then I punched out the remainder of the rivet. Getting the punched out half of the middle two rivet out of the track was a pain.
The two end holes on each track have to be enlarged to fit the supplied bolts, as mentioned in the instructions. If I were to do it again, I probably would not would not bother to punch out the remains of the center two rivets.
I would try to cut the rivets heads off and then drill the rivet to allow the factory base to release. Then I would cut the remaining rivet stub down to the track and leave it in place. By punching the inner end of the rivet into the track, it winds up trapped in the track assembly, and is difficult to remove.
I think I spent about two hours in all, but I have a well outfitted shop and a fair amount of fabrication experience.
Others will very likely take longer to complete the conversion, but it is well within the time and effort.
I am very pleased with the product and end result.
Thank you Winnievan!

Yeah those rivets are pretty sucky -- angle grinder and big punch works -- but drilling them out is also possible. And yes -- it's probably best to leave the middle ones attached to the rails -- but I've had my rivet stubs floating in the tracks for about 5-6 years now and they haven't jammed -- so it's pretty innocuous to have them captured, IMO!

Enjoy swivelin'!
