RWD to AWD swap

RWD to AWD swap

Postby 68cuda [OP] » October 19th 2011, 6:58am

Hi there. I have low mileage ( 120ish k km ) 93 RWD that is in very good shape and a 93 AWD that is very rough cosmetically read rusty body but has a newly rebuilt t-case, front diff new cv joints etc. How much work would it be to take the AWD portion from the one van and install it in the other?

Thanks for any advice and BTW I have more time than $$ currently since I bought a house. I also need to justify all of the tools I have purchased in the last few months

While we usually steer people away from the RWD to AWD convertion, you already have the donor, I'm saying go for it. Seeing that they are the same year it should be pretty straight forward. You'll be swapping sub-frames and all the suspension and drivetrain components and transmissions.

I'm guessing the easiest thing would be to pull both sub-frames with the engine and everything attached, swap engines, then put install the sub-frames assemblies in opposite vans.

AutomaticThe purpose of an Automatic Transmission is similar to that of a manual transmission, the auto tranny's primary duty is to allow the engine to operate in its narrow range of speeds while providing a wide range of output speeds.
