1997 AWD - can you assist re my trans/ xfer case

1) How do i know if i have a "shallow" pan or a stepped pan?

2) Is there a trans drainscrew, or do i have to just unscrew the pan and messy-drip & lower the pan

3) is it 11 quarts of Dex III?

4) what is the proper trans filter & gasket number for me

5) what does the xfer case use for fluid & its capacity.... and where is the drain for that?

Please explain your search process, maybe we could help work out the bottlenecks and save you time for every other search you have for the rest of your life. The amount of time that could be saved in a lifetime could be HUGE!

Lol - well, the first one is the easiest, assuming that the shallower pan doesnt also have its own "step"!

So if I start on #2 - I guess i would enter in the search box "transmission drain" "Tranny drain screw" " 2007 drain screw" - ?

Also - im not getting email alerts when people are replying - can someone help me to know where to flag that feature for this, and other, threads?

LOL, yeah, those are good starting terms, just don't forget the word 'drain' when you are searching google for "Tranny drain screw", might not get the expected results. I prefer 'transmission drain plug'. On the right hand side up next to the first post you can subscribe to the topic, but they can sometimes be hit/miss on the notifications.

the step pan is the deeper pan and here is a picture , you will have to get under the van and look its the only way to know. if you have the deep pan this is rockauto pn RAYBESTOS POWERTRAIN 515704
if you have the shallow pan then this is rockauto pn ACDELCO TF289
dexron 3 for the transmission. your transfer should be a BW 4472 which I was told uses dexron 3 also.
