pulled the filter cover and look what i found

Postby sicshovel [OP] » March 2nd 2013, 5:07am

my van a few months ago just stopped moving there was no reverse no drive nothing, so i parked it for a couple months then went to tow it into the garage and have the tranny pulled then all of the sudden it would drive, so tonight i thought i would pull the pan and see how the filter looked, this is what i seen when i dropped the pan. if im not mistaken that peice of rubber shouldnt be stuck up in the filter hole, there was about half of it folded inside of the filter hole. what the hell. where did it come from? when i pulled it all out of the hole i could see the filter element, wow...you think that being stuffed in the hole would stop my trans from working? what the hell is it? it looks like an inner tube or is that how the gasket for the pan looks?

I don't know what that is, but I know what it isn't: normal. New filter/fluid, and give it a try.

Looks like whoever serviced the van last, somehow left the old gasket behind... new filter n gasket should do the trick!!!

I used to rebuild transmissions years ago and that's a new one for the books.

I've rebuilt a few over the years, have one in the garage for a buddy and the one out of my Astro waiting for me to rebuild them, but I've never seen that either.
