2000 astro no awd drives great no light or noise help

Postby adamacc10 [OP] » June 3rd 2013, 11:14pm

I have a 2000 Astro van and the all-wheel-drive is not working. I got stuck in an inch of mud and the only wheel that is turning is the passenger rear wheel. all driveshafts are there and the transfer case but it is still not working I checked all the fluids and they are full and look good any help would be appreciated. do you think that it could be the transfer case motor or do you think I need a whole new transfer case also do you think it is alright to drive like it is?

2000 astro no awd drives great no light or noise help

The service Awd won't always light up if the encoder motor is malfunctioning. The computer can read that the encoder motor is engaging, where in fact it could be the gears in the motor are stripped, this giving a false engagement reading.

Drop the driveshaft to access the last of the three encoder motor bolts.

Use a 9/16's wrench to turn the cam that switches from 2hi to 4hi.

I feel like I've answered this question numerous times.

Pull the atc fuse if your worried. Kills the power to the encoder motor.

Anything else I can think of is going to make a lot of noise, and feel broken while driving. It's easy to check it you have the right tools. If I had money to gamble I'd make the encoder motor call every time, because you aren't complaining about noise, smells, vibration, or clunking.

If you use the search function, you'll find a bunch of threads about it.

You can measure the motor. Look for around .5 to 50 ohms.
