stall speeds/difference

I have put in a v-8 and hooked up to the 700R4 from the van and since the trans and torque conv. were new (less than 2000mi's) i left em in and am now questioning whether or not the torque conv. will work properly/have a lower stall speed. Seem like i read somewhere the 4.3 stall was 200-300rpm lower than the V-8...any input???

Sure a looser T/C would get you into the power band sooner,but at a cost of increased heat.Just make sure you cut in a tranny cooler and you should be fine with what you have.You'll find many,many members here with V8 swaps that have done just as you have.

Thanks for your GARY...I was hoping it would be OK...I didnt really want to take trans apart again but if i had too i would. I do have a up to 9000lb cooler coming, should be here within next couple days...ALSO=i didnt know 305's had a "power"band...

Yeah, its why I used a 350ish block. They (at least mine) as a power band.

yeah that 305 wont be in there long...Ive read that those(mine) 305's have about the worst flowing heads, the doggiest freakin intakes, and if memory serves me i think the compression ratio was around 2.75 to1 . I think the only good thing on the whole block is the roller cam...oh well...IT WAS FREE!! it only cost me the fuel it took to get it home from a town 21 miles away...cant beat that. THANKS GRANNY!! Trying to talk wifey into lettin me get a stroker she doesnt understand why i need a bigger engine...

Thats a good idea 355...Ill have to try to come up with something cause every time i mention or look at a new 383ci she just comments..."what is wrong with the engine you just put in...or why do you need that much power anyway??" I guess most women just dont get it... The question SHOULD be why not a engine with 400hp and 435lbs torque??

Well you might want to find a friend who owes a 383 that will let her drive it on highway speeds.Then she might not let you alone until you get one.

Thats the funny thing...shes sortof against buying a new engine but when i had the S-10 on the road she insisted on using it for her work rig cause she loved to drive it...and in her own words..."I LOVE the way it sounds when i pass someone" and she always liked the fact that when you wanted to pass someone you could "git-r-done"... I think theres hope for her yet...

I guarantee you that any V8 putting those numbers down is a very efficient engine.
