TV (detente) cable install Q's

Recently pulled trans from my '89 Astro: 700R4, 4.3 v-6 normally aspirated,
Rebuilt one will go in nxt week.
Noticed the TV/detente cable had a fray so I pulled it but cannot find the exact length cable for a direct replacement.
Actual cable length is 40 1/4 " I figured to find the exact replacement so I wouldn't have to do any adjustments.
There are alot of adjustable cables for sale, Rock Auto Ebay etc some say cable length can be 39.5 to 43"

Are these suitable as replacements ? And what is the adjustment procedure ?

I have read so many ways to adjust this cable my head is spinning !
Just need the definitive method so I don't blow my rebuilt trans.
There also seems to be several styles of adjustable cables out there .
Would be great to replace with what GM originally had on there as it looks like a non adjust slap it in and go style cable ?

Real deal that I am thinking of going with' is a aftermarket valve body.
Reverts to old style instead of the new tech. TV cable just adjust the shift at part throttle and skips what ever they were thinking when they made this style. Makes it impossible to destroy the trans because it isn't adjusted correctly.

I know what they were thinking. The 350 and 400 turbo's are bullet proof. So we better screw this design up so bad that it actually makes it look like a good idea making the computer shift it.

Another case of messin with something that ain't broken !
I have found this cable and it looks like a winner. Seems others have been searching for their older vehicles as well and have had a hard time finding the right one in local parts stores as have I.
Once installed it adjusts itself when you floor the gas pedal one time.
Then off you go .

Just to update and mainly close this thread as good to go.
The AC Delco 25521268 cable can still be found at the dealer or at a cheaper retailer either way costs are around 25 bucks .Its 'plug n play' and fits right in.

Do the one timer adjust of push spring lock in , move plastic sheath all the way towards it's cable mount bracket ( i.e away from carb linkage ) Then floor gas pedal and watch the cable sheath ratchet out to the proper length.
Presto your ready to drive.
