electronic T-case computer location?

electronic T-case computer location?

Postby astrofur [OP] » June 7th 2010, 1:35am

alright. in the rain today i found out that my AWD still doesn't work. speed sensors changed, encoder motor changed, all wires plugged into the right spots, etc. can still spin rear tires and fronts don't kick in at all. spun for a few seconds then let off the go-pad and she quit spinning, so i know there is something wrong.

its summer in New York so i am taking this casually and as i have time. that encoder motor might be bad, i have yet another one to try on it. but there is one more thing i know of that can go bad, and that is the computer control module that actually controls the AWD. and i just so happen to have a spare, but i can't find quite figure out where they put it on the van :? i have looked everywhere i can think of

not in the kick panels (either side). not up under the dash behind the heater controls. can't see anything that even resembles it under the dash or on the firewall. don't think its under the drivers seat and not willing to rip up the carpet to find out.

if anyone knows where it is located... and its not too hard to get to, i'd like to swap it just to eliminate the possibility.

many thanks A/S

i thought since there is no shifting on the case there was no control for it. i know what you are talking about for a truck or s-10 but dont think the vans have that same control mod. anyone else know for sure??

the particular module i am talking about is the same one used in the 98 and up S10 Bravada. you are right there are no shift controls, its fully automatic. on those vehicles its located in the passenger side kick panel. the T-case is almost the same and the electronic function is identical.

S10 Blazer/Jimmy had the buttons on the dash and had a different module. and a proper 4x4 T-case to go with.

There is a control module as the '99+ was RWD unless it detected slip, in which case it became AWD. Having said that, I have no idea where it might be...

The online manual link shows it directly above the drivers' front wheel well secured in a plastic inset. If you remove the drivers' kick panel, it would still be forward and up a bit.
The price of paying attention is cheap considering the alternative.

I thought the airbag controller was under the driver's seat.

i figured that it wasn't under the seat (my thing) because at the junkyard there are a couple not-AWD vans and they all have something down there

i'm not gonna get into all of the taking apart right now, but def some time this week or next i'll take a look. thanks!
