Remote Keyless Entry RKE problems 99 Astro

Remote Keyless Entry RKE problems 99 Astro

Postby tonka [OP] » January 30th 2011, 4:53am

Bought a 99 Astro a while back and was looking at the RPO codes in the passenger door jamb. Noticed that my van came from the factory with Remote Keyless Entry, but I didn't get a remote with the van. Ordered one from GM and programmed it. It works sometimes and sometimes not. Tried replacing the battery in the remote, since I didn't know how long it had been on the shelf. Still same problems.

Tried re-programming the remote again and still have same issues. No rhyme or reason why or when it works. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks. Brian

You may have a bad ground at a door jamb , or other location , they only reach the signal at maximum 35 feet , you can check the other threads about the remote keyless entry

It's probably the remote. Ordinarly, the system is very reliable.
If it's a new remote, ask teh dealer to test it. They have the receiver.
If it is a used one, try taking it apart and cleaning the black raised buttons with denatured alcohol, and the little fingers on the circuit board that the black buttons press against.
