Bad short in wiring

Bad short in wiring

Postby harry10461 [OP] » June 12th 2011, 3:31am

I have a problem with my 1991 safari. The other day I was driving my van over to my moms. After i shut it off, when I went to leave it wouldn't crank and the fusible link behind the battery fried off. after chasing down wires and possibilities I've narrowed it down to the purple wire on the ignition switch. With it hooked up and the fusible link end touching where it burned off, when I turn the ignition to start it acts like I have a direct ground(arcs bad). What does this hook to? I can't find a schematic that tells where the wires off the switch run to. Thanks, Harry.

Red wire on ignition switch ties to another red wire that goes to under hood fuse block to starter enable relay

yellow wire from ignition switch going to fuse panel under dash , comes out purple goes to neutral safety switch comes out yellow and goes to starter enable relay @ under hood fuse block , goes to ground
purple wire from starter enable relay to starter

If you do not understand I can post a wiring diagram later tonight ,

This is from a Gen2 van , the color might be different on your 91 , but the diagram is titled as a 'typical cranking circuit'
