Dash lights and tail lights acting up

A while back, my dash lights, including the lights on the heater controls, went out completely. At the same time, my radio LED stopped dimming with the rotating switch and wouldn't get dimmer when I turned on the headlights like it used to. Someone also said my taillights were out. Closer inspection revealed that they were merely dim, and not out completely. Pulling into my friend's driveway, my dash lights came on, as well as the other lights. My tail lights went back to their normal brightness.

Apparently it's a loose wire somewhere... I'm thinking it may be a faulty headlight switch. Any ideas before I replace something I don't need to?

I'm not an electrical expert but it wouldn't hurt to grab a junkyard headlight and dimmer switch. They rarely go bad. My junkyard only charges $2 per switch. If that's not the problem, it's likely a loose ground somewhere.
