Premier Gear PG-8206 Professional Grade New Alternator on Am

Just installed a new alternator, which I bought from Amazon. There are at least 25 different listings for alternators, so I thought I would offer a comment on the one I git.

It's just a regular CS130D Series, Internally Regulated/Internal Fan 105 Amp/12 Volt, Clockwise Rotation, 6-Groove Pulley.... a basic vanilla alternator. I elected not to go with the D244 or anything exotic as even though I camp and run a fridge, I rarely come close to 'max charge' situations... no extra current draw beyond a couple of amps and I run solar (charge both house and aux)... Unless you are draining your battery bank and needing rapid replenish or drawing some serious 'I" from a cranking stereo you really don't get much benefit from a larger alternator....

The reason I am writing is that I can not believe how quiet this thing is! I have installed a LOT of alternators over the years, on many different vehicles.... I can usually hear some minor bearing noise... not with this one. I even put the stethoscope on the thing and can hear noting....

Not bad for $75 bones and no core charge....

I will update this if I have any issues with it in the future.

Ummm, actually current is drawn.
Unless something is drawing 105 amps.. the alternator is basically coasting.

Exactly... yes, I know... I have installed a bunch of high output alternators on boats, most often when used with battery monitors like the Link 10... measuring the actual current draw it is very rare that an alternator is operating anywhere near it’s rated capacity.

My point in replying to bob (who said that it was putting out less “amperage” then stock, was that it would not be putting out any less.... it’s just making less noise while doing it..

As for the price, I saw a bunch of listings, there was one that was cheaper without prime... I paid $72.40 plus tax to get it prime... the other listings had “free shipping” for a couple bucks less but took longer to arrive.... glad they dropped it a couple bucks for you.
