Center High Brake Light Problem

Center High Brake Light Problem

Postby owensdj [OP] » January 2nd 2019, 5:58pm

The center high brake light on my 97 Safari doesn't work. The other brake lights, reverse, and turn signal lights work. I noticed the problem testing all of the lights after having an accident in a parking lot. It may or may not have worked before this.

What are the chances the problem is the light itself and not something related to the accident? Also, what's the best way to replace the light? The best deal I can find is about $130 on Amazon. Can someone post a guide to replacing the light? Thanks.

Center High Brake Light Guide: remove two screws, replace light, install two screws.

But they are super reliable so check the power/ground before buying a replacement. JY is your cheapest/best bet.

Mine almost failed inspection one year because of this, but it started working again. I took it off and resoldered it, I haven't been told of any problems since. I think GM had some flaky solder back in he day, what with the wiper boards, ABS modules, brake lights, am I forgetting any others?
