Starter wiring

Starter wiring

Postby Greenacarina [OP] » February 8th 2020, 2:23am

Hello!
Recently had my battery die in my 86 Astro. Put in a new one, now I get no crank. Voltmeter shows 12 volts, doesn't go down when I turn the key to start, tried shifting from Park to neutral...no change.
I have a FSM...somewhere...can't find it when I need, of course.
Hoping someone can tell me where the starter wire comes thru the firewall and the path it takes to get to the starter (and color).
I want to see where I am not getting power.
Thanks in advance!
Chris

Checked fusible links yet? Also look at the connector behind the battery. If it was OK before the battery swap, it would be highly coincidental for the switch to go at the same time.

I did check the 2 fusible links behind the battery...they tested good. I do not suspect the ignition switch, I am quite sure something under the hood got disturbed.
Without a wiring diagram it's purely a guessing game :(

Thanks for the diagram!
Looks like there is a relay I need to check. Can anyone tell me where I might find that?

Thanks!
