Power windows and power acc circuit breaker

Power windows and power acc circuit breaker

Postby GSouthee [OP] » March 25th 2020, 6:58pm

Hi fellas

Any idea what would make the circuit breaker trip when the power windows are used, mainly if used down then back up within a few seconds like when paying a toll?

Also what else is on the circuit breaker ie what power accessories? looked in the Haynes manual not much ruddy use.

Oh my wheels are a 1999 Astro tintop passenger van LT.

Cheers

Re: Power windows and power acc circuit breaker

Common problem with the electric windows.

Mine is doing the same thing (again).
I find I can "help" it up.. but it will keep getting worse.

The load resistance of the window coupled to a worn motor means it's drawing excessive current (more than it should)... which trips it's internal breaker. Lubing the mechanisms and tracks can help.. but only a little. Spray silicone works nice in the tracks.

The "circuit breaker" is built into the motor.
I believe it is actually designed for the auto roll down function... trips when window reaches bottom and stops moving.

Buy a new motor. They aren't too expensive.
They aren't too difficult to install either, other than drilling out some factory rivets.
You'll obviously have to pop the door panel.

Cheers for that mate,

However I was under the impression the windows CB was in the fuse box under the dash?

Will try the lubing first as the van was garaged for the last 3 years with very little use.

Here's the only image I have of the power window circuit, which shows the breaker at the fuse box. Either way, I would replace the motor. Even if you get it to run, it'll probably be really slow and worth the $15 to change it.

Cheers bill,

That diag is much better than I have found and seems to be as I thought. Gonna give it a lube and then see what happens.

Will have a decko on web to see who can supply door motors to the UK. Poss Rock Auto?

Cheers again

The GM Techline eSI is the GM Factory Service Manual for many vehicles, but in digital format. There is one floating around the web where it's already setup/installed/ready to run in a Virtualbox image(as an .OVA file).

Here is how to set up Virtualbox to run the prepackaged virtual machine: https://sites.google.com/site/astrosafa ... virtualbox
Might find some other interesting links there as well ;)
Let me know how you get on with it.

I can give a tip or two.

Tip #1: Mediafire links look like this non-functional example: https://mediafire.com/file/klwj485sdf71s9dfs83s4s
Tip #2: 1+1=2

Awesome! Yea with bittorrent it all depends on others that are seeding the file, a lot of people don't do their part they just leech and run.

I like to set up shared folders in Virtualbox and the directions to install a PDF printer are listed on that Virtualbox setup page. If you print to PDF to a shared folder on the host, then you can open that on the host system and print it with whatever printers are on the host system.

If you run into any issues that aren't covered, feel free to message me.
