Driver's door lock won't pop all the way

Driver's door lock won't pop all the way

Postby WakkoWarner [OP] » November 15th 2012, 4:11am

The driver's door lock on my mom's 2000 Astro won't pop all the way when you press the button on the remote. I have replaced the door lock actuator twice now and the problem still persists. Does anyone know what causes these to do this?? If anyone has any ideas, your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lubricate all the linkages.

I second lubricating the linkages. Had the same problem on my Olds. Replaced both actuators and still wasnt happy with the sluggish way in which they worked. I was shocked how much friction developed over the years. Lubed it all up and now it works like new!

I will try lubricating things. As for the actuator, it is a lifetime warranty unit from O'Reilly (it was $53).

I don't know for the life of me where it is. You would have to use search.
There is a thread about bad connections on these in the wiring causing it also. Not getting full voltage. Body ground issues I believe it was.

I am not sure if it would be grounding, as the rest of the doors pop very strongly.

pull the door panel off, roll up the window grab your flashlight and start using the popper, see whats going on..
is it binding,moving super slow,etc.

then disconnect the linkage briefly try the actuator again
if it pops strong when not hooked up,then lube is your problem.
if not, then check to see if theres a door ground? or maybe add a ground wire to the case itself of the actuator...
also look for any debris that may have fallen into the linkages areas..

more than likely your door latch mechanicism is dirty or needs lube..the one that latches the door closed.
it has linkages going to that as well, and it would hold your button from popping if its not all working together smoothly.
