Van will not turn over, intermittent problem

Postby Prairie Dog [OP] » May 23rd 2013, 12:32pm

My 2002 Safari has an intermittent starting problem. Occasionally, and after it is warmed up, I'll turn the key to start and nothing happens other than all of the dash lights come on and the warning chimes sound. It usually re-starts in 30 seconds to 5 minutes, but once it did not re-start for 2 hours. I have had the lock cylinder & key replaced as well as the ignition switch. It has been to 3 garages, most recently the dealer and it has never failed to start with a mechanic present. They have checked grounds, fuses and allegedly everything electrical. This is very frustrating as I rely on the van for work. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'd be checking the wiring to the starter, personally. And the relays. Cleaning everything up, reinstalling with dielectric grease liberally smeared...

Could be something wrong with the neutral safety switch. Next time it does it try to wiggle the gear shifter back and fourth ... Also try starting it in neutral.

Actually, that was one of the first things I tried but no luck. Thanks for the reply.
