02 sensor questions

02 sensor questions

Postby markmitch [OP] » September 25th 2013, 12:12am

OK to start with I install an 83,000 mile 5.7 vortec into a 1989 astro van using the vortec to tbi intake made by GM .
I also swapped from the single wire non heated 02 to the 3 wire heated 02 using a wire that is powered only when key is on. And the purple wire to the ecm. I double checked the wiring and have current when key is on yet I am getting a code 44 which is faulty 02 or rich or lean condition. my Y pipe is made up of two Y pipes to make it work with the V8 but I mig welded the parts together and I can hear leaks ,,,,,, my questions: can exhaust leaks cause this code? if no what else can cause it ? 02 sensor is new cause old one coded so i replaced it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Mark

Yes a exhaust leak will cause O2 codes.
