Dash lights dim during day

I have a 2000 Safari SLE AWD Canadian Model. When I am driving the vehicle during the day the dash lights are dimmed as if I was driving at night. I can't see the led displays (gear change; mileage; trip; overhead display) clearly. This used to be intermittant but now is full time.
I've disconnected/connected the daylight/night sensor but no difference.
Can anyone help?

Do you have anything laying on the dash that would cover up the sensor?

Thanks for your reply and info. Unfortunately, nothing is blocking the daylight to the sensor and the dimmer control is fully turned up.

If you tested the ambient light sensor by covering it and nothing happens to the brightness, then the daylight control module or the sensor itself is faulty.

Just wondering if your issue was ever resolved? I'm having exactly the same issue with my 2000 Astro now. Sensor works fine, as it does turn on the parklights and switches the headlights from DRL mode to on, at dusk...nothing covering the sensor...dimmer control is turned up.
