97 Safari AWD Will NOT Crank, Speedo Stuck at 100

approx 250k miles on engine, new plugs wires cap rotor ect. car has been sitting for a few weeks. only noise i hear when i turn the key is the starter relay in fuse box.

Battery is fairly new, tried to charge it and wont even attempt to crank, should i try hitting the starter with a hammer or put 12 volts directly to the starter? If the starter is bad what tools/size sockets do I need to change it.

Thanks

First off check your grounds, at the battery, and at the engine and chassis.By check them, I mean disconnect and clean them, make sure there's not any corrosion in the connectors or terminals, or contact points, make sure everything's nice and clean, and well connected. You have an odd combination of problems, so I'd start at the grounds. ( check the engine for additional grounds from the wiring harness). Others will be on later and will help out if they can as well.
Figure out the problem before buying parts
