Very intermittent - No starter action *Fixed*

Very intermittent - No starter action *Fixed*

Postby norohs [OP] » December 23rd 2013, 1:31am

It's been going on for years. Once a month or so, I'd turn the key and the starter would not react at all - no bumps, no clicks, just dead  . Try it a second time and everything works just fine... for another month or two. Wash, rinse and repeat.

I finally had to address it today. Yesterday it took 100 tries at the key to get the starter to move. :dunce:

Problem fixed  . Cold and cracked solder joint at the solenoid on the starter was fixed by re-soldering the connection. The field coil wires are terminated on the solder lugs next to the screw lugs. The picture should be self explanatory.

Saved me $150 at the parts house. I hope someone else can do the same.

Yes sir, it does.

I'm especially looking forward to the day when I get the rough idle fixed and can report on what fixed it.
