Ask a dozen people here get a dozen opinions. But it is a extra dead plug. I had a astro and a safari side by side with the front ends off.

It fits the water bottle to the opposite model. If you have a astro it fits the safari water bottle. If you have a safari it fits the astro water bottle. They are just different enough not to fit each other but look identical.

When I rebuilt mine from the total. I tried to put the astro bottle on my safari when I discovered this tidbit.

So whatever it really is. It is dead and fits a water bottle on the other model. Draw your own conclusion.

When I found this extra plug, I thought it might be for the rear window washer (dutch-door type). Asked a mechanic what it was for... he said "I don't know".
