Pass Through Grommets - Rear Body Floor

A while back we were discussing how to get wires from the interior to the exterior at the rear of the van. Here's the grommet for the trailer wires I was talking about. LEFT rear inside, pull the plastic rear A/C cover, on the floor next to the A/C pressure hoses.

There's one on the RIGHT side as well. Has a knockout like an electrical wiring box. Mine was partially knocked out, "coin" still hinged on. I plugged it with a more appropriate rubber plug.

I too have fed wires through that area but I didn't see any knockouts!

Those wires in mine are to the trailer hitch, which I've never used. Perhaps interesting to note that I've got, presumably from factory:

ONG (looks red in the pic) = Hot In Run Power
DGRN = RIGHT Stop/Turn light
BRO/WHI = Tail/Running lights
WHI = Ground

Odd that the RIGHT but not LEFT stop/turn is wired.

Maybe the P.O. failed the "Turning Left with a Trailer" test and never went back for a re-test? Seriously...that IS odd, like you said. But I wouldn't lose any sleep over trying to figure out what the fork a P.O. was thinking. That usually leaves you with more questions than answers. If it bugs you, fix it. If, like you indicated, you have yet to use your hitch, then leave it alone and find something worth spending your time on. btw....isn't orange supposed to be for the LEFT stop/signal?

But, if it was, as you suggest - ONG = L turn/brake, that would make a lot more sense. Maybe they ran out of YEL wire when installing the hitch. I guess I should test and verify it. Maybe someday I'll tow something.

• Yellow: Left stoplamp and turn signal.
• Dark Green: Right stoplamp and turn signal.
• White (Heavy Gage): Ground.
• Light Green: Back-up lamps.

So now that we know I was wrong about the orange wire, (Thanks, Leann), I have another question. What is the rating on the hitch you have there, Lumpy? Is it the big guy designed for those 70 ft portable motels that I know you love so much? It sounds like the wiring you discovered is one half of the 8-wire plug that Leann referenced. So now, I wonder, where in the hell is the REST of the wiring hiding? Like I said before....more questions than answers, huh?

I believe it is the OEM "Under 2000 lbs curb weight" hitch.

Ok so 2000 lb boat/tent/utility trailer type hitch.....you're probably correct about the ORG wire being a substitute for the YLLW. What kind of connector is on the end of this harness? A flat four-wire would be what I would expect to find....
