Yellow H3 bulbs for Fog Lights?

Yellow H3 bulbs for Fog Lights?

Postby Lumpy [OP] » November 30th 2015, 6:05am

I've got white fog lamps with H3 bulbs. I want them to be true "fog light yellow". Which H3 bulbs will really do that? I'm reading a lot of reviews that say some H3's aren't like fog lights but more like Euro headlamps, apparently white but on the "yellow side" rather than the "blue side".

What's the poop, light experts? How do I get yellow fog lights?

As I'm sure you know, real fog lights have a different reflector/pattern than 'driving' lights and are designed to be mounted low to face up in order to help see in fog/rain/snowy conditions. They can be yellow or clear, however yellow provides better contrast in those conditions.

If your lights are indeed fog lights and use H3 bulbs then you can just use something like Hella yellow H3 bulbs. Another option is to tint/paint the lens.

I have Cibie euro lights in my FJ40. When I wanted yellow I bought some French spec' yellow glass ballons that fit over the bulbs. I think they are H4 bulbs though.

Super yellow. Looked awesome. Everything looked real crisp at night. But man did it draw a lot of unwanted attention.

I installed these in some clear lens Hella 450 fog lamps.

They still look white to me. But the lamps still provide improved illumination when the fog gets thick.

I guess this is more of a post of what doesn't work if you want yellow.

That's my concern. A lot of the reviews of the yellow H3's, from el Cheapo to expensive, say they don't really give off yellow light.
