turn signals flakey

Postby since_1971 [OP] » September 30th 2010, 2:08pm

I have been having an intermittent problem with the turn signal switch, some times the directionals don't work, or blink slowly.
some times it's when it rains, but not always.

I'm ok for now because nobody else uses there blinkers here in Providence, but I might want to fix it esp if I drive to the 'burbs some time.

any ideas

Check the flasher unit under the dash by firewall it may be going bad or the wrong one , it could also be corrosion buildup in the bulb sockets , or a bad ground connection.

X2 Bad flasher unit # 1 cause of slow flash. A really bad ground will usually bog the whole system to a grinding halt. Not really sure where they put the flashers, but I would trade them in on electronic ones. There are two flasher units, one for T/S and one for Hazzard. One way to troubleshoot the system: Turn on the Hazzard and if everything is pinky with that system, then swap flasher units. If the hazzards fail, and T/S work, replace the bad flasher. If no change, start looking for bad grounds, bulbs, wiring, or T/S switch.

Good Luck Y'all
