No Dash cluster lights AT NIGHT !!!

No Dash cluster lights AT NIGHT !!!

Postby MR WUBBS [OP] » December 9th 2010, 6:54pm

I have checked ALL fuses and relays, seems my dash cluster lights do not work at night. They do work when the dimmer roller is turned on and the ceiling lights work as well at that time too.

I had a bad rear defogger switch the was replaced but that I do not think has any ties to the dash lights?

I can get the headlights and parking lights to operate on switch as normal but no dash cluster.

Could there be something inside the headlight/park light switch that has gone to sleep?

Thanks for any help

They do work when the dimmer roller is turned on........but they don't work at night?

You referring to when you roll it all the way until it clicks and the dome light comes son?

Does that little button called the over ride do anything when pushed in both conditions when the dome light is on or off?

I would say check all your fuses again. See my post below, I was having a similar problem. The fuse had a hairline break in it. :2:

jnbgoch wrote:FINALLY!!! Decided to take another look through the fuses. Turns out that fuse #9 in the under dash fuse box READS parking lights. It was blown and also operates all the lights I was having problems with. (tail lights, instrument lights, radio/overhead console, temp control) I found all this out by going through the fuse box again while reading the manual. Now all I have to do is get the cat. conv. changed and get smog tested!

Thanks to those who replied.

I was lucky to find another doner van today in a local junk yard..............I got the headlight switch for 20 bucs and installed it...............EVERYTHING WORKS !!!

I did in fact open the old switch and look what could be the problem, seems they use a anti corrosion grease to coat the tracks inside the switch...........I do not know if that in fact could cause the issue.

I will be getting the overhead console out of this van next week and all its wires as well. LUCKY FIND !!!!

THANKS FOR THE REPLYS

Glad to see you got it working, headlight switches draw a lot of current throughout the course of it's life , they get internal corrosion and go bad , not uncommon

Right on Phantom,

That can be said for just about everything electrical that goes bump in the night on these trucks. Amen.

Hi, I am wondering if your issue was the same as mine. I have a 2002 chevy astro van. my HVAC control switches along with the rear A/C, Heat, and wiper buttons are not lit. I did read somewhere about a headlight, headlamp, dimmer switch, etc... something like that that needs replaced. Are you talking about the module where I can turn the headlights on and off, or is there another switch/connector that you are talking about?
