Forum Protocol Question

Postby Lowcountry [OP] » September 15th 2020, 6:54pm

I'm currently assessing an '05 Safari (let's not worry about the acquisition story, etc. just yet) and there's lots of little part things that I can't answer. I downloaded the parts catalog from this category but still can't find some of them. Since this isn't a specific build yet (depends on assessment), should I make a separate post about each part inquiry or just one big one that includes all parts that I'm hunting? They're in different regions of the van. For example, I'm hunting the vertical sealed beam adjustment base that's stripped as well as hinge bumpers for barn doors. Thanks.

First, use the search box and search for each item.If not successful on some,I would put them all in a list.I am not a mod,but I think that would be proper.

I've been doing searches. Some dealt with parts whereas others pertained to troubleshooting a symptom or problem so not really able to group other than to the year/model. Thanks for reply. Maybe you'll be able to help once I know how best to throw out there.

I thought about that but one part may be on the interior whereas the other may be on the exterior. I don't mind making multiple parts posts in appropriate areas but I wanted to check to be there wasn't a more efficient method. Problems sorta fall into the same trap but they're more defined, such as transmission or suspension.

not many folks take the time to make nice with their new friends, and i applaud your asking.

I am NOT a mod here, but have run several forums.

after a few new threads to familiarize myself with my van, I myself started a "project/build" thread, and pretty much have been recording the entire process there. I also browse areas that may have answers I seek, and will usually find one close enough to the subject and ask my question as a reply to that thread. if any new info comes to light, it adds to the thread. when I have something not yet covered or otherwise new here, I consider that worthy of a new thread.

I hope that helps a bit.

and remember, not only do we like lots of pictures of your progress, for fun, pictures can also be crucial when asking for help.

I got the memo about pictures early on but right now the only picture worthy of posting is one no one wants to see....an SES light.

Go with what you feel :)

Just post your 'wanted' posts in the 'wanted' section and all will be well.

heck man, it almost looks like you have the "theme" for your project right there. with my warped sense of humor I'd start my thread with exactly that pic. to be honest, though, I'm super glad I didn't have to.

best of luck to you.

Exactly. I've found some here do "build threads" (that go on page after page, year after year).
Personally, I usually start a new thread (for my different projects) in the appropriate category.
I'm able to easily reference them later in my "user menu".

Examples: My V8 engine swap is in the "V8 Swap" category.
My 4x4 transfer case upgrade is in the "4WD,AWD And Transfer Case" category.
My brake jobs are in the "Brakes" category...
My radiator upgrades are under "Engines"
My tire stuff is under... (you guessed it)... WHEELS/TIRES!
... and so on.

Build threads are cool.. but I feel they are less detailed and specific.
Some I'v never read... (and the title never changes to reflect the current work).

There's even "uncategorized".. which gets used a lot.

To each his own..
