Time to scrap the astro..

Postby jrsride2002 [OP] » August 7th 2016, 6:24pm

Blew the trans, this morning. Parked it at a tranny shop, we'll see what they say.

At first, I had a SES for P0756. Shift silonid, and the fluid was in terrible shape. Smelled bad, and back-ish in color. I had it flushed 20K ago too.

If it's a new trans, it's scrap. If it's a flush and silonid, I'll fix it. I just can't do a trans job right now, I'm stretched to thin at this point.

I've always taken pride, in the fact that the engine and transmission were bullet proof. It's everything else that falls apart on me.

I don't want to just walk away like this.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but... I think you already know what to expect. Fluid doesn't go bad on it's own, it always has company. Burnt fluid means burnt clutches. No reputable shop is going to want to do half a job on a vehicle. It's bad publicity if you leave there and break down a block away- even if it isn't their fault.

See what they say, hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Maybe you and RodKnock are close, get a good van and a parts van between the two... Sounds like he needs a crank kit at the very least.

Hey Kid,
Yea, the shop that did the rebuild, two years ago, was demolished. Hint.

Thanks for the link, I just sent Rod a PM. I don't know where he is, so I'll just wait.

Currently looking on CL, see what I can get cheap. I still have to make it to work

Hey Mike,
Good idea. Well, I am in the Houston area. Thanks for the idea.

However, I've already received offers while it's been on CL for a couple hours. I'm thinking I should have asked for more, but oh well. I just know that, I can't afford a new tranny.

Who says it has to be a new trans. You could pick up a used trans and have the shop put it in for about what a cheap car will cost you..

Take the ad down for a few hours then re-list it if that's what you wanna do. Raise the price....no explanation required. You can always go down but you can't go up once it's out there.....

Well. The trans shop never called me with a report, or anything. They closed before I realized it. I'll just have to talk to them in the morning. Went ahead and pulled the ad down, hopefully the few that messaged me, won't notice and move on.

Kind of the last options(chance), for this van.

Thanks guys,

I guess vehicles don't know how lucky they are I own them. Mine would have been scrapped 6x if someone else owned them.

I am kinda waiting for my trans to go so i can disable the computer finally. Be nice it it ran like a non computer car. Smoother and more power. Better and easier my eye.

Are you saying computers haven't made things better and easier? Remember back in high school, they were telling us that because of computers we would only be working 2-3 days a week? Oh......uh, yeah....never mind.

Unfortunately some folks are only working 2-3 days per week thanks to computers, just not by choice.
