Bad gas or No gas, but fixed

89 Astro, 4.3, Z VIN

It's been stumbling off the line, no accelleration till 3rd gear,
once in a while even engine dies while idling at a stop light.
The kind of thing that feels like a vacuum leak.
Engine code 14 (lean, read at O2 sensor).

Gas tank was down near empty. Gas in the tank was 90 days old,
top tier Shell regular.

Guessing that perhaps the gas had gotten old...

I filled the tank (top tier Shell reg again), took 20.5 gallons in it's
tank which I think(?) is 27 gallons.

It IMMEDIATELY ran better. No more stumble, accelleration was
fine etc. It was so immediate it was like as I pulled away from the
gas pumps.

So I'm thinking it wasn't BAD gas, it may have simply been NO gas,
ie the fuel pump pickup was sucking air. If it was bad gas, I'm thinking
it would have taken a few miles to work it's way from tank to engine.

In any case, the camo van is rollin again...

Mine just sat for 4 months, same thing. Filled w/ 93 octane, ran better. Might not be a bad idea to run a bottle of Techron through. Ain't cheap, but it got my sluggish gas gauge working consistantly again, and I'm hooked. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... rd=techron

one time last year i stuck in several gallons of gas from a truck we put a fuel pump in, the gas was really yellow and i noticed it didnt burn skin like typically.

but at the time we didnt thnk much of it because we knew it was newer gas

anyways this truck had been running fine then started dying and no starting and all kinds of crazy stuff and we had replaced the original 324k miles engine with a good lower miles nice one, before this gas was put in it,.

when we got it back again we dropped the tank and put in another fuel pump and thats when i put a bunch of this gas into my truck

well then mine started dying acting real bad and crazy stuff too







i tried all kinds of stuff, another ICM and distributor and etc

finally thought about it and figured out it was the gas

they had gotten it from a local station that i never go to myself, and that i will avoid for sure now,

i diluted it with a bunch of new gas and it came out of it and has been no problem since

if the gas is yellow and doesnt smell strong then something aint right

otherwise check the ICM and cap and rotor and fuel pressure and FP relay
