how do you pop the side window? we tried doing that with the wire thing also

If you go for the doors with some form of slim jim be sure to use it on the passenger door. Less wear on it and usually pops easier. If memory serves go down thru window slot just behind lock on inside and keep fishing up until it pops. I'll for try now and see if it works.

I have done it by wedging the passenger door open at the top of the window frame with 2 screw drivers, then used a metal yard stick to hit unlock.... had to do it a few times in the past... boy your having a tough week Dawn. Hang in there!

god hates me.

Can you join/splice it with your wire hangers, to lengthen it ? :teasing-whipblue:

Take two wire hangers and twist them together to make it less flimsy.
Tie it to the thicker wire with a bunch of bread ties or wire.
Twist the bread ties or wire with some pliers or channel locks, anything to tighten it.

Or like Will said when you go to a hardware store buy some rod or some odd.

There is no God to hate you.

All my LAPS have slim jims available - the full-length ones, the folding ones...several options.

Our local PD no longer opens vehicles. Liability issues; they're not allowed to.

Lots of GM keys from the same era will open mine with some wiggling. Once open the DIY security system will vaporize you where you stand though, FYI.

That long antenna rod that musicman describes...

Stick that through the rubber/door jam, reach tip of antenna to opposite side of the cab, hit UNLOCK button. Used to be called a "Corvette Master Key", CB antenna whip was the tool of choice.

Re: How to break into my van

Holy sheiße.

I just spent nearly an hour trying to work this out.

I bent and rebent that steel rod so it was more crooked than death row.

I added duct tape to the end to give it a bit of grip.

I even practiced trying to lift a chair with the mangled Frankenstein of a rod I had created.

My goal was to form a hook around the manual lock and somehow leverage it upwards to unlock.

In the end, I somehow randomly tapped the power lock in juuuust the right spot with juuuust the right amount of force to get it to unlock.

After so much thought and planning, the solution ended up being something I can't explain.

I feel there is a metaphorical life lesson somewhere in there.

If I wasn't so relieved, I'd be pissed.

When you're getting spare keys made... ask your locksmith for something like this... it has a 4 digit combination lock and can be locked to a hole in the van's frame. Realtors use them to lock a spare key on the door knob of a house they are showing. The front panel opens to expose a spot for a couple of keys. I use them on all of my vehicles. The only person that will see it, will be your mechanic.

I have done this more than I care to admit. I have a simple rule now. Do not close the door unless your looking at the keys in your hand. Got to take the keys out. Get in the habit of putting them in the hand your closing the door with. No key no close. Then stuff them in your pocket. Then I walk around and check the slider that periodically takes fits and don't lock because it needs cleaned.
