How to break into my van

Postby Astrodawn [OP] » March 21st 2017, 8:15pm

I locked my keys in my van.

Pm me if you know any tips for unlocking Astros from the outside.

Thanks x 10000000000

The Steck BigEasy works for me, however, you can use some common household goods to replicate the process. I have had to improvise once while on the road, between the mini-mart and McDonalds, they had all of the supplies that I needed :)

X2

As soon as you get it unlocked go get a key made.
Fasten key under the hood somewhere.
Some folks put one behind their license plate.
But people steal plates and uhhh :auto-layrubber: ???

If you don't go get a key right away at least write it down where you will be reminded.
Note on the fridge ?

Watch the videos, should be able to find stuff around the house to make it work. Also, if you have the sliding door window partway open, you can use a broom handle to pop the other latch open and then reach your hand inside to unlock.

yeah, we already got a wire hanger in there, but we couldn't get enough leverage to do anything.

Those tend to be too flimsy, about the only thing a hanger is good for is grabbing the keys if you can reach them.

I have made slim jims out of shipping strapping and cut out a notch. Unfortunately I have no knowledge on how/where to grab, move wiggle on an Astro/Safari.
Be careful those little plastic clips that sometimes attach rods snap easily.

Good luck. How about a tennis ball? Never tried that way, but maybe?

I once twisted 2 or 3 wire hangers together and it got 2 or 3 times less flimsy.
If anybody is ever in a bind.
I know I got the unlock button pushed from the opposite side of the car once.
One window wasn't closed 100% and it worked sideways great.

That tool looks good.
I'm going to buy one.

The few times I've locked myself out the local PD used a slim jim to open it... just had to sign a liability waiver. Not sure if they still do it but was nice they did. When I had AAA and it happened traveling they sent out a guy with a slim jim...

I can highly recommend it, works great. If I were buying it again, I would probably skip out on the inflatable wedge. The $30 basic kit is really the best bang for the buck. Yes, it's $30 for a 1/4inch coated steel rod, but it's effective.

I used to drill a hole in the floor in front of the passenger seat, and poke an antenna rod through to push up on the lock. It has always worked for me... but requires two people... one to guide.

I open the sliding door. Pop the window on each side then reach in and unlock it. I can do it with a coat hanger. But that is rough and you got to have it bent just right then twist under the window lock.

I also used a framing square "BEFORE" it was painted the first time. That scratches the window post pretty good.
