I have to confess to everyone that I am a traitor...

Postby KeepinItSimple [OP] » September 19th 2011, 3:52am

I bought a van a few months ago...but it wasn't an Astro/Safari. It's not even GM! Trust me I looked, but I couldn't find good ones in my price range. I ended up buying a full size Dodge b250.

Don't get me wrong, I love the van - but I'm still here lurking and looking because you guys are just more fun! I hope thats OK...

Sorry, I wasn't aware that there were vans made by other than GM. (hee hee)

Does that Dodge have cup holders?

Show some pics. There might be stuff on the Dodge that we could incorporate
onto our real vans.

Yep. OK. I deserve it...but at least I'm still here and I recognize the superiority of this fine group of enthusiasts, right? :D

I'll post some pics soon, it's almost ready for the "unveiling". And yes, it does have cupholders! (A little to large, and square, I might add).

And remember - I still haven't ruled out an Astro/ Safari van in the future!

Stick around- we've got to have SOMEONE to pick on! J/K! My brother drove full size Dodge vans for decades & liked them. Then again, he's got an AWD Express van now and says he'll never go back. I have no room to talk either. I drove a $200 Daytona for 2 years after putting tires, battery & a clutch in it. Sold it for $450, so I didn't do too badly. Who knows, you might do something similar.

I've always liked all the Dodge trucks and vans I've ever driven.
The old Power Wagons were a tank. Likewise the half ton vans
that everyone converted from telephone company van to hippie van
were tough and could stand a hefty "rockin".

I do not blame him. I check everyday looking for a new astro van. The prices are just sky high. The 2000 dollar range and it will at least run. We had a good thing going and you people ruined it for the rest of us. The word has gotten out on how good these vans are. I am going off to start a Ford forum and just talk about how good all the Ford vans are. :chevy:

There is an infidel amongst us! And he drives a MOPAR product! :D

Honestly, Mopar is the least of my favorite but I can't deny the fact that they make some pretty good cars. I guess it comes from my 80's upbringing where it seemed like all of the snooty and uptight people in my neighborhood bought Dodge and Plymouth vehicles..

Like the guy in my neighborhood who had a LeBaron. The guy thought he had a gold plated Caddy. It was red with a white rag top and a faux spare tire on the rear of the trunk lid. And he had spoked hubcaps. He would wash and wax his car at least twice a week, rain sleet or snow. And he thought he was better than everyone else. :hand:

Then the driver's ed car was an Omni. It was ugly but we had fun driving it.

Then my uncle with the Hank Hill personality had a Scamp. You couldn't ride in the car with him without at least one trip to the hardware store and a 20 minute lecture about C-clamps and shelf brackets.

Oh wait... Where was I?

Ah, so, grasshopper. Reverse psycology. Let's tout the "other" trucks, and keep the "lousy" ones to ourselves.

I like it.

Bob

BTW: Power Wagons were a product of the Dodge Boys, long before Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth. Now, the boys knew about trucks. Not like some of the crap I see on the highway these days.

I'm thinking maybe if I put an AstroSafari sticker in the back window I can make amends :)

Seriously though, I looked for a good solid Astro for around $2000 for alamost 2 years and never found one. I got my Dodge b250 for $2000, ttl included, as well as a new tranny with a warranty and only 45k! It was a churchvan that rarely saw the road.

Anyway, I appreciate this site and everyone on it, no matter what I drive. I'll post some pics soon if I won't get flamed too badly :)

Aw, c'mon now, we don't (well, most of us don't) flame anyone who is willling to share their woes with us. I must admit, that there are a few spirited rivalries, or feuds, if you like, among some of the

posters, but if you stay away from politics, religion, your choice of oil brand, and fuel pumps that are made in China, you will have a learning experience par none. I have not seen a better forum than this

one that deals with the Astro and Safari. Truely. It is current, up to date, and questions really get answered, not at all like some of the forums I have tried.

Where have you been looking for your $2000 vehicle ? Dealers, Autoshopper, Craigs List, the For Sale here at A/S.com, or where ? Depends on what you want, how much you are willing to fix and rejuvenate,

and how old a truck you are in the market for. I see plenty of trucks in and under your $2000 range, some look pretty good, some not so good, but they are out there. Sometimes you have to look

outside your area, and be willing to travel. Tinworm picked up a good deal around Virginia, and towed it home to Conneticut. He is due at my place this weekend to pick up my parts van in S. Jersey.

I have gone all over N.J. and as far as Conneticut for a buy. I would even consider a flight to Fla to pick up a good deal. You just have to keep your eye out all the time. Some of the guys here also

post when they see a deal. Kind of like sharing the wealth, not wanting to see a good thing go to waste.

Bob

I won't lie. I actually don't mind Dodge's older trucks and vans. They aren't bad as far reliability and really easy to work on. But for some reason, I'm just not that fond of Ford. It doesn't help that almost every time I see a truck pulling another broken down truck, it's a GM pulling a Ford. Sometimes a pretty old GM truck, too!
