a few questions for you guru's

Postby markmitchmarkmitch is online! [OP] » November 1st 2019, 3:19pm

I just picked up a 1994 Astro it has the 4.3 and 4l60E and the air bag in the steering column.
How much work to swap in a 700R4 later
is the wiring harness much different to swap in a 7747 pcm do I need to change harnesses to do both? and what do i need to do to swap the air bag steering wheel out to install my Grant custom whel with out air bag?

I am considering using my 89 as a part vehicle just because I can get it smogged with the V6 then later add my V8 since the county I live in does not require smogged after its legal once. :ty: :ty: Mark

I can't answer for any small changes but it'll involve computer and harness swap for trans.

As for air bag column I tried a steering wheel swap in my 95 but inside the column is totally different. But i swapped in a 89 column and it was a direct swap so id recommend swapping column

The 700R4 can be operated completely WITHOUT a controller.
The only controlled device in it is the lock-up converter, which can easily be manually switched.
I run my stock 700R4 (in my 92) behind my carbureted V8.

As far as controlling an air-bag... I HAVE NO IDEA!
I sport a Grant wheel in my 92 (with no airbag)

I also forgot they make a hydralic lock up kit for the 700 and that gets rid of the electrical and it'll lock up automatically or do like musicman and manually do it

Just when you think you know your wife she says Oh I think we should keep both Astro's cause the blue one(the 94 I just got) is bigger and has two bench seas for our dogs lol. So instead of building the 94 i am just gonna fix it up a bit such as a distributor swap touch up the paint and a tune up. Seems the electrical problem is the distributor. So we are now a two Astro family! Thanks for the replies guys.
